Hey Guys!
I feel like I haven't blog in a while! I have exams all next week :( lucky me! Anyway, today I thought that I would do something a little different, to mix it up a bit! So, I have decided to share with you a hair hack that I have been seeing all over the internet lately, and that has been recommended to me by friends! I believe that people knew about this ages ago, so I'm a bit late to the party! But, I thought that I would tell you my method, anyway!
Sooooo, I am going to be using coconut oil to hopefully strengthen and lengthen (try saying that quickly, lol) my hair! I know that it sounds boring but I am going to be talking (typing) you through the steps and processes that I do because I think that lots of people might know about the benefits of coconut oil, but don't actually know how to use it! Here it goes!.....
1. Should I be using any particular coconut oil? - It needs to be the kinda 'solid' form. It usually comes in a jar and looks a bit like a waxy soap (I will insert pictures of mine). As far as brands go, it doesn't really matter! Mine is by a brand called 'coco loco' and it was in the food section of a super market. (the cooking version is the exact same as using one that is for hair in particular).
2. How do I apply it? - I start by sectioning off the part part of my hair to make sure the oil reaches all of my hair. I then grab a small handful of the coconut oil to begin with and rub it through my hands to melt it a bit. Then I massage it through my dry hair (the bottom section), starting at the scalp (roots) and then running my hands to the ends of my hair. I repeat this until all of my hair is covered thoroughly. I do the same for the top part of my hair, concentrating the product to the ends of my hair each time, because that is where my hair is the driest and most damaged (thank you hair straighteners!). WARNING! This is a very messy process! lol
3. How long do I keep the coconut oil in my hair? - I tend to try and sleep with the oil in my hair. This means that it fully conditions my hair and I just think that it will work more thoroughly. However, keeping it in for more than 2 hours will do fine! It can be quite uncomfortably because it is so greasy. So, I will chuck all of my hair into a high messy bun (off my neck), and if I am sleeping in it, I will wear a shower cap, despite how funny I may look! Haha! ;)
4. How do I get it out of my hair? - This is probably the most difficult part. The following morning, I will have a shower and was my hair with shampoo about 3 times. This might sound excessive but I have quite long hair (its very fine though!), so it takes A LOT of effort to get the oil out of my hair. I don't use conditioner when doing this! I tend use coconut oil every 2 weeks so that my hair doesn't get too greasy.
5. What are the benefits of using coconut oil? - Although it might take several uses to see the good results from the coconut oil, it does work wonder for your hair. It can increase hair grow and decrease split ends. It moisturises your hair and keeps it from being dry at the ends. It also encourages new hair growth to thicken your hair due to a healthier scalp and hair follicles. Iyt can also prevent dandruff and a flaky scalp.
I hope that you enjoyed this type of post! Speak to you soon!
